“When I was sick, you visited me.” Matthew 25:36
My husband was in ICU many years ago with a scary diagnosis. Here's the beauty of what followed when he had no strength to get out of bed.
Two friends showed up with a "faith burger" from Burger King. We erupted in laughter and Jack ate it. Later that day, another friend walked in with his pulpit. Literally... he brought his pulpit, set it at the foot of the bed, and preached with the same strength and purpose as if he was ministering at a miracle crusade with thousands. Jesus' healing love prevailed, and Jack recovered.
These memories flood my soul as I think about God's compassion and desire for us to be healthy and whole. In particular, I call to mind how God ministered life to Jack. The Lord came, in human form, through friends who cared. They stayed and talked and laughed and sang.
Oh, body of Christ! Let's be the hands and feet of Jesus. The world is hurting and needs more than shouting words from a distance, unmoved by their fear and pain. People still need Jesus' hand to personally touch and lift.
What if you and I are called to this today?
