When Offering Correction

I believe there is a way to voice correction without being mean-spirited and siding in with the accuser of the brethren. Motivation is of utmost importance.
Here are a few questions to consider.
Is the goal of my instruction love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere (unfeigned) faith? “But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” 1 Timothy 1:5 NASB 1995
Do I have a log in my own eye that I need to remove, so I can see the speck in the eye of another?“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:42 NASB 1995
Have I prayed for them? Seriously?“But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” Matthew 5:44a
Can I call someone friend when betrayed by a kiss?“Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed Him. “Friend,” Jesus replied, “do what you came for.” The the men stepped forward, seized Jesus, and arrested Him.”
Do I wish someone harm, like Jonah did towards Nineveh, despite God’s desire for mercy and life? (Jonah's correction was accurate as he shouted to repent, but his motive was not in alignment with God’s heart.)“So he complained to the LORD about it: “Didn’t I say before I left home that you would do this, LORD? That is why I ran away to Tarshish! I knew that you are a merciful and compassionate God, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. You are eager to turn back from destroying people.” Jonah 4:2
Does this post make me angry? How come? (That's actually a great question.)“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 b
You and I will not give an account of how someone reacts or responds when we offer help in the form of correction. We will give an account for how we deliver it... including motives for doing so.
God help us all. Truly. Help us, Lord.
