Blind Faith

Did you know? The hymn, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, was written by a dear lady who was blind.

Helen Lemuel suffered a horrific illness that resulted in her going blind. If that wasn’t bad enough, Helen’s husband then abandoned her because of the blindness. I cannot even imagine the crushing sorrow that surely gripped her soul.

It was during this season of despair and heartbreak when Helen came across a tract by missionary Lilias Trotter called, Focus. Rather than turn a deaf ear, Helen leaned into comfort from the heart of God through its words. In turn, she wrote the words and music to Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.

I could preach a lot of sermons right now but I don’t want to. Instead, I invite you to listen to the song below. Don’t try to force faith. Just rest and receive comfort as Helen did when she penned the words.
