walking in shoes of peace
(Also put on) “the shoes of the Good News of peace— a firm foundation for your feet.” Ephesians 6:15 Weymouth Translation
I prefer going barefoot. That works fine indoors, but it can be problematic when I walk to the mailbox in frigid cold or pull weeds on a hot summer day. Be it slipping on ice or getting stuck by a thistle, it’s a bummer. If only… I would wear shoes like I am “supposed to”, it could divert unnecessary issues. In times like this, Ephesians 6:15 comes to mind. “For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.” New Living Translation
Let’s say I actually put on shoes before going in the yard. The ice or thistles would still be there, but I could walk on top of them with greater ease. (Assuming, of course, they are proper shoes for the season. Flip flops on ice or snow boots in summer don’t work so well.) I digress. My point is this…Wearing the right kind of shoes makes a big difference.
No wonder the Apostle Paul referred to shoes as necessary armor to stand firm in the day of evil. Wearing shoes of peace does not mean our road will be void of sharp rocks or piercing weeds. It does mean we can walk on top of it with peace as a protective barrier.
Jesus never promised an earthly life void of trouble. He did talk about the provision of peace for difficult times.
““I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 NIV
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Is there a specific area that is robbing you of peace? It’s good to bring those concerns to the Lord. Talk with Him and entrust your burdens into His capable hands. He cares for you and wants to help.
“cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
Maybe quiet your soul… hold your concerns in your hands (so to speak) and lift them to the Lord.
You are in my prayers…
Father, You are the God Who Sees and the God Who Cares. Please help the person who is reading this. Receive their concerns and grant them wisdom, hope, and courage. Fill them with the knowledge of Your will. Empower them with peace that surpasses understanding. Be their ever present help in time of need. Amen
Here’s a song that helps me when my mind is struggling with worry. I hope it settles your heart as well.
